Shawn has a really good list of current (and dead) DNA sequencing companies. I also had a list which I stopped updating in 2020.
I wanted to try and list up every active DNA sequencing company I’m aware of, it includes a few that are not on Shawn’s list and excludes all the ones he has marked as dead. Perhaps you are aware of some I’m not! Here’s my list:
On Market
Illumina, BGI, Element, Ultima Genomics, Thermo (Ion Torrent), Oxford Nanopore, Pacific Biosciences, Qitan Technologies, SeqLL, Singular Genomics
Not Sure
PolySeq, Geneus, MeTech, Salus, Gene Sense, One-chip, GeneMind, AxBio
In Development
Armonica, Cygnus Bio, Depixus, DNAe, Roche, iNanoBio, Quantapore, Single Technologies, XGenomes, Universal Sequencing Technology, InSilixa (Danaher?), Caerus Molecular,Acorn Genetics, Swan Genomics, Stream Genomics
Dead?
RH Genetech, Genvida, Personal Genomics, Sequlite/Fapon
UPDATE: Nooma appears to be dead and I removed them from the list.
UPDATE2: I have been informed that 454.bio is no longer active, and that Lunar Bio is not DNA sequencing!
UPDATE3: I’ve moved a few other companies to “Dead” which I’ve been told are no longer active. Further confirmation welcome!
I’m sure I’ve missed some. If you know of any others, please ping me (new@sgenomics.org, or via the Discord).
We’ve seen a number of companies die since I last listed up DNA sequencing companies. But overall, there’s still a healthy ecosystem of ~40 companies that appear to be in active development. However the big shift is the far larger number of companies based in China (~15/40) compared to only 3 last time round!
Is SeqLL still active? On their website they seem to mention financial changes that seem indicative of trouble.
