Roche Nanopore: First Thoughts (Pt 1)

I’ve previously covered some of the implications of a Roche Nanopore sequencing platform and how other sequencing companies could react.

This post summarizes my notes taken during the announcement. As it’s 3am here, these are just my early poorly formed thoughts… there may be more to come.

Summary

Results are shockingly impressive for an entirely new sequencing approach. Unheard of to see early access results at this stage from well known partners. This gives huge amount of confidence that the instrument, approach and data quality works as stated.

Accuracy is higher than Illumina for duplex (I need to dig into the results to comment further here). Simplex should also be usable for many applications.
