The New GeneXpert

Cepheid have announced a next generation GeneXpert. GeneXpert is a sample-to-answer qPCR platform. You can take a swab, stick it in a cartridge and within an hour generate a report. They have for example a Flu-RSV-COVID cartridge which will tell you if you have COVID or something else.

What’s most interesting to me about the next GeneXpert is that GenomeWeb have reported that it’s a semiconductor based system.

Many folks have suggested semiconductor based platforms. But none of these have made their way to market in any serious way. We should hopefully find out more on in their presentation on the 28th, but until then we’re left to hunt around in patents and speculate.
