Clive's Departure from Oxford Confirmed
Oxford Nanopore have confirmed the rumors that Clive (CTO then CTIPO) has left Oxford Nanopore reported here last week. He has been replaced by Rosemary Sinclair Dokos as Chief Product and Marketing Officer and Lakmal Jayasinghe as CSO. Both seem like solid choices and I wish them the best of luck!
Gordon commented that “He established the company’s distinct vision”…complemented “his vision and leadership”…and promised that they will “deliver against this vision.”1
For what it’s worth I personally believe that Clive has a number of attributes which make him perhaps uniquely suited to building startups. It’s quite possible that Oxford would not have survived at all without him. I worked for him at two institutions and he’s a fairly unique and fascinating individual…
Anyway… a significant number of senior people have left Oxford over the past year. In addition to Spike, Clive and Tim leaving the board in March. As well as rumors of layoffs.
I suspect this has all impacted the company culture pretty significantly, but I think we’re still yet to see major changes in product and strategy.
Will be watching with interest to see how things develop…
Oxford’s non-optical sequencing system strictly speaking requires no vision based components… so perhaps everything will be ok anyway.
