PromethION and MinION Chip Layouts
Using the images from yesterday and various other sources I put together the following approximate layouts for the MinION and PromethION chips:
The layout suggest that the MinION array is very slightly larger than the PromethION (~33x11 versus ~32x11). This is odd and I can quite fathom the reasoning for this. I’m also confused about well counts. Here Oxford state “12,000 pores in individual wells; 3000 pores can be actively sequencing at one time” elsewhere they quote “PromethION Flow Cell contains up to 2675 nanopore channels”. Like the MinION the PromethION appears to use multiplexing. But do we have 10700 or 12000 wells?
The MinION sequencing region appears to be ~16x6mm (96mm^2) versus ~30x12 (360mm^2) on the PromethION. That suggests a roughly 175 micron density on the PromethION to me (assuming ~12000 wells). This seems similar to what we’ve seen elsewhere discussed in the context of the MinION.
Paid subscriptions welcome just in case ONT decide they think cartoons of their flowcells are illegal.
