Sequel 1, 2 and Revio Chip Sizes
Pulling together some of the images discussed in my previous posts my best estimates of the Sequel 1 chip size are shown in the following diagram:
f I’m using the scale bar shown on Mathieu’s presentation here, rather than my estimates from Annette’s. My estimates from Annette’s required some awkward lining up of images and the resulting sizes (~6cm for the whole package) seemed too large. If someone would like to confirm the physical package size for PacBio chips (any or all) this would be very helpful (new@sgenomics.org, post a comment, on the Discord).
I then went and searched out various other chip images, trying to match the scale of the overhead chip shots:
From other reference images, Sequel 1 and 2 chips appear to be approximately the same size. The Revio chip size is harder to estimate but I’d assume the fluidic port is roughly the same size as the Sequel 2. This would make the Revio chip package more or less the same size as the Sequel.
Overall this suggests that the die size has stayed ~constant across the Sequel and Revio and is roughly 25x25mm.
Overall I think I’m getting more comfortable with my understanding of the PacBio platform evolution. Next post will likely be some thoughts on the lasers used in the Sequel II including some further pondering on what’s going on in the Revio.
