For the last 3 years Illumina have been reporting clinical versus research market size at JPM. For the first time in 2023 clinical was bigger than research:

And it’s not just increasing as a fraction of the total market¹ clinical applications are also increasing in real terms:

In fact it seems likely that Illumina’s revenues will continue to shift toward clinical applications in 2024. The bulk of the market is now clinical NOT research, and this trend seems likely to continue.
